Question for Essay #3
- Are small acts of change after sharing our stories and educating really what is takes to create social change when worrying about our climate?
We need to bring awareness and education to others and make them act on it. We can share our own experiences with them and tell them about the small habits we’ve developed to create change. We can back it up with McKibbens reasoning of statistics. We need to make sure they understand that this is something they can do to give them a better sense of why they are doing so. When we begin to create these habits of small acts to create change, we begin to develop Moore’s idea of moral responsibility, when people affirm what they think is true, good, or right and then back up their claims with reasons (8). Essentially we need to encourage others to follow our behaviors and explain to them why we’re doing so. We have a moral duty to protect our environment; it’s our home, and we need to keep it stable not only for ourselves, but for future generations. When we take Moores idea moral responsibility and apply with McKibben’s strategy of math, statistics, and strict facts of what climate change really is and how much damage it’s done, then maybe it will begin to open people’s eyes and cause a sense of shock, so people can realize how severe climate change really is.

Hello Alyssa! The question “Are small acts of change after sharing our stories and educating really what is takes to create social change when worrying about our climate?” is a really good one to base your thesis off of for your essay! This is really good because the way it is worded you can not only bring up the three experts that are mandatory to write about, but also you can include Anne Hallward. Hallward would work great because you mention the aspect of sharing stories! I am excited you read your essay!
