Active, critical reading (150-250 words)

Active, critical reading (150-250 words)

I really believe Im doing a good job of active critical reading. If you look at the annotated samples of the articles we read for Essay #1 then you’ll see I make text-to-self, text-to-world connections in addition to connecting other texts we read. I hi-light important parts and make notes to help myself remember parts of the literatures. (See pictures of annotations below) Next, my blog posts. When talking about Anne Hallward Safe Space podcast focused around LGBTQ teens I…

Managing individual error patterns (150-250 words)

Managing individual error patterns (150-250 words)

My weakest point throughout the essay was definitely comma splices. I didn’t even fully understand or realize what a comma splice is. I now understand that comma splice separate an independent clause from a dependent clause. After bringing this concern up to my writing tutor i learned that after the comma you need to add a word such as, (and, but, so) and if that doesn’t work, then simply end your sentence with a period. These errors did not improve…

Using MLA citation (150-250 words)

Using MLA citation (150-250 words)

I feel as far as MLA citations go, I have a pretty strong sense on how to do this. In high school we pretty much only worked with MLA, so I’m very familiar with it. My quotes and paraphrases went well in my first essay, and my works cited was on point. There weren’t any MLA revisions I made from rough draft to final draft other than the part that I got so caught up in my paper, I forgot…

Critiquing your own and others’ work (200-300 words)

Critiquing your own and others’ work (200-300 words)

I feel like critiquing my own and others works is something I do really well. When critiquing my own paper, I always print out a hard copy to mark-up because I feel like it’s easier to for me to look at rather than just the screen. However when it comes to peer editing, I always want people to read over my paper and give thorough, honest feedback, so I always do the same. When peer-editing, I really focus on how…

Integrating your ideas with those of others (200-300 words)

Integrating your ideas with those of others (200-300 words)

This class has helped me very much in the concept of integrating quotes properly into my writing. In high school, I always just tossed a quote in there, I barley introduced the concept, and I for sure did not explain the quote, because I thought the quote explained itself. Therefore leading up to my first essay, I felt as though I was extremely successful with the “Quotation Sandwich” aspect of my essay. I really tried to focus on the intro,…

Writing as a recursive process (200-300 words)

Writing as a recursive process (200-300 words)

My rough draft to final draft definitely had lots of changes. I was thankful to have the help to Lexi and Maddie in editing my essay, and they too gave some very helpful feedback. In my rough draft my essays biggest concern was the flow of the essay and making sure all my ideas made sense. I wanted to make sure I had a well organized and well structured essay. I did have this, what I needed to work more…

Martha Hall Experience

Martha Hall Experience

Viewing Martha Halls work of art through literature was much more impactful than I expected it to be. Sixteen years of fighting breast cancer caused Hall to grow depressed as we saw through her work. Martha Hall created her own form of literature to portray her story, experiences, feelings, and journey. Just by observing her books we notice instantly that they are different from your typical piece of literature. These books are short in page length and word count. There’s…
