Helen Epstein is a very powerful women who wants to advocate, educate, and promote public health awareness. In fact, Epsteins’ primary focus is on raising awareness about the AIDS and HIV epidemic, she spends a lot of her time trying to create social change in South Africa. In Epistens’ article it illustrates South Africas background as “Unemployment exceeds 70 percent and the crime rate is one of the highest in South Africa” (Epstein 113). The significance of this is to prove that Epstein believes that instead of educating this more poverty based country, she believes it will be more beneficial if a conversation is held among communities, “will this make it possible to create a global conversation about HIV and AIDS” (Epstein 109). Epstein is a smart woman who wants to help raise the awareness of the AIDS and HIV in addition to help better other countries and people of other ethnicities.
